Spiced Baked Chickpeas

Garbanzos especiados al horno

If you're looking for a healthy alternative to potato chips or fried nuts, spiced chickpeas are the answer. When baked, they lose their moisture and turn into extremely crunchy bites. To achieve a bold, addictive flavor profile without increasing sodium intake, we will use Bonsalt , which will enhance the spice blend exceptionally.

Technical Sheet

  • Estimated time: 5 minutes of prep + 35 minutes of baking

  • Difficulty:

  • Servings: 2-3 people (as a snack)

Ingredients

  • 400g cooked chickpeas (can be canned, well washed and drained)

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon La Vera paprika (sweet or hot)

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric

  • Seasoning: 1 generous teaspoon of Bonsalt and a pinch of black pepper.

Professional Step-by-Step Preparation

  1. Technical drying (Key Step): After washing and draining the chickpeas, place them on paper towels and dry them thoroughly. If the chickpeas go into the oven while wet, they will steam instead of crisping up. Remove any skins that come loose.

  2. Spice mix: In a large bowl, mix the olive oil with the paprika, cumin, garlic, turmeric, and pepper.

  3. Salt-free seasoning: Add the Bonsalt to the oil mixture. The potassium in Bonsalt is ideal in this recipe because it helps the earthy flavors of the chickpeas and cumin stand out without the need to use regular salt, keeping the snack 100% heart-healthy.

  4. Coating: Add the dry chickpeas to the bowl and stir well until each legume is evenly coated with the spice and oil mixture.

  5. Baking: Spread the chickpeas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure they are not piled up. Bake at 200°C for 30-40 minutes.

  6. Crunch point: Halfway through cooking, shake the tray so they brown evenly. They are ready when golden and sound "dry" when moved. Let them cool on the tray so they finish firming up.
